I'm an ethical vegan and work at home. I try to be as open to new experiences as I can be, while still being a critical thinker. I feel that the most vulnerable among us should be protected and consider myself a progressive/ socialist/ radical.

I hike & bike when I can. Among my many loves are: long hikes, waterfalls, mossy trees, thick pockets of ferns, old-growth trees, animals, windswept landscapes, colorful flowers, old neighborhoods, narrow streets, urban spaces, crazy buildings, tiny houses, abandoned ruins, riding my bike, DIY, fruit, oddities, chance encounters, social justice, trains, road trips, and global travel.

<strong>Reading:</strong> I don't read enough, but when I do I enjoy non-fiction authors such as Malcolm Gladwell. I also read Harper's Magazine. <strong>Movies:</strong> Sci-fi, fantasy, adventure, animation, independent film, documentaries, anything with David Attenborough <strong>Shows:</strong> I very rarely watch "shows". Examples of the few that I do watch: Daily Show, John Oliver, NOVA, Frontline, Futurama (R.I.P.), South Park, The Simpsons <strong>Music:</strong> A wide variety. Chris' place is wonderful :) as is Chris and his furry four-legged friends. The location is perfect in the heart of SE. Very walkable and quick, convenient access to at least two frequent-service bus lines that connect with Streetcar and MAX. The apartment is cozy and beautiful with lots of cool art, books, and various DIY creations. The futon is super comfortable and you're likely to have a furry companion(s) snuggle up to you overnight.
Christopher was a terrific host! We met briefly at Portland Vegfest where he was tabling for Try Vegan PDX, and we had some nice chats while I was staying with him in his cozy apartment in SE Portland. He also has adorable and friendly cats and one dog. He pointed me towards a lot of cool vegan restaurants/bars/trucks nearby (the SE area in general was great).
Christopher was an amazing host! I stayed with him one night before a field trip, and contacted him beforehand to see if we could go hiking. He and Dennis (the dog) picked me up at the airport after I was delayed getting to our meeting place, and we went for a hike to Multnomah Falls. We had dinner at a local vegan restaurant afterwards and stayed up talking when we got back to his place. It was the perfect start to my week and a great introduction to Portland.
Christopher has a lot of experience hosting and while it was very interesting getting to know him, he also somehow made it feel like I was staying with an old friend. I am really impressed and can only hope to follow his example one day when I'm in a position to host!
His place was exactly as described, and I got to meet all three cats as well as Dennis. I enjoyed waking up to one of the cats, Henry, saying hello in the morning. Christopher was thoughtful about making sure I knew how things worked and had everything I'd need. He even took the time to help figure out how to get to my meeting point as I didn't have cell reception. The bus stop is close, so it's quick and easy to get downtown.
I can't imagine any way in which staying with Christopher could have been better. He was generous with his time and energy as a host, and the best part of staying with him is the chance to meet an awesome person (and his awesome animal companions).
