Raised as a vegetarian I was aware of the impact of my choices for animals, hunger, environment. Now I have a small B&B in which I show what is important for me: I grow my own vegetables and fruit, I'm trying to become independent of fossile energy (electric car/motorcycle, solar panels, heat pump etc) and I host chicken out of factory farming to have a nice retirement.
Kia ora. I'm a 63 year old New Zealander originally from Henderson in West Auckland. ( 2022 November 20 )
I bought this house way back in 1994 when I was living in Japan and I came back to Mangawhai to live in it in 2009.
My parents first brought us up to Mangawhai on holiday in 1968 and they moved here to live from 1980 - 2000. I know this area well.
I spent short periods here as a young adult and spent a year living out at Mangawhai Heads for a year in 1984 while working at Marsden Point Oil Refinery to save money for my first big O.E. ( overseas experience ) during which I travelled overland through Asia and Europe to the U.K - then back again - and then hitch-hiked around Australia.
I went to Japan in 1990 on a working holiday visa and hitch-hiked for two months and ended up living there ( Nagoya, Yokkaichi and Kyoto ) for 6 years
During that time I also travelled in China and Korea, the West Coast of the U.S.A., Mexico , Kenya, Madagascar, Isreal and Egypt.
I speak Japanese and Indonesian and am qualified to teach English Language ( 16 years experience ) and I now teach music through guitar .
I play guitar and percussion and paint/draw and do a lot of writing and am involved in a variety of political advocacy groups. ( environmental/human rights/energy / sustainable transport etc.
I'm a non-smoker,non-drinker, vegan, a utility cyclist and a body-surfer.
I enjoy being around other people who are out travelling the world, and with other progressive thinkers.

Costa Rica - doesn't it sound exciting already? Well, San Jose is not quite that exciting, but still a good starting point. Enjoy a very vibrant downtown - it is unbelievable full of people, young and old and everything in between. Embark on a day trip to one of the volcanoes, go zip lining in the jungle or get over jetlag before heading to the beaches and our national parks.

We are a married couple with a cat, sharing our friendly vegetarian home in the beach suburb of Maroubra, in Sydney.
We travel as often as we can, both in Australia and overseas, and we love to get out and about in nature - even if it's just a weekend away in our trusty camper van.
We are open, honest people and we like to think of our home as an environment where people can connect and share rather than just as a space to eat and sleep.
We are from multicultural backgrounds ourselves and we enjoy hosting guests from around the world. Being vegetarians we always appreciate hosting vegetarian or vegan guests, and we look forward to having you to stay!
Hi there!
My name is Axel. I am vegan (for the animals and the environment first.).
My partner in life, Vicky, became vegan after we met.
Our daughter Chloé (6 years old now in 2017) was born and raised vegan.
We also have a male rabbit named Judy, and a female named Wendy. And they are vegan! Ha ha.
We are French (from Paris, France) and came to live in Montréal in January 2014.
We are now Canadian citizens as well. :-)
We speak French, English, and some Spanish.
No need to say we are an outgoing family since we are on this web site!
I am super nice with good people (but jerks don't want to get in trouble with me...).
THE FLAT AND THE SURROUNDINGS
We live in a wonderfully nice, very quiet and comfortable flat,
clear and sunny,
with a big double living-room,
a nice and modern spacious kitchen.
It has 2 terraces and 1 balcony.
The flat is in one of the top areas in Montréal (beautiful streets, shops, food, nightlife).
It is extremely well situated.
We are less than 5 mn away from the metro station (which is very rare in Montréal),
and a 30 mn walk from downtown.
Very close to big parcs (10 mn walk) with baseball, football and tennis grounds,
and several parcs around the house (the closest having free water games and being at less than 2 mn).
We are very lucky (but we earned it).
There are several vegan restaurants in the area (it is actually a sort of vegan friendly area),
the closest one being the famous "La panthère verte", at less than 1 mn walk from our door.
There is a bike station (Bixi) at the door.
We have a nice chimney and often do fires during the winter.
We have a piano and a guitar.
We are non smokers and the flat is smoke free.
The flat can NOT be accessed with a wheelchair.
It is easy enough to par a car for free in the streets sourrounding the flat.
Montréal is a top city. Very sunny.
There are parcs everywhere.
It is very green and fun during the summer :
Free outdoor swimming pools and water games everywhere,
tons of free music/theatre festivals, street pianos,
parties everywhere,
several beaches accessible by car or public transportation,
a big amusment parc (named "La Ronde"),
etc.
You can ski during the winter :
cross-country skiing on the mountain at 15 mn on foot from the flat
and the nearest slopes are 30 mn by car from our door.
There are also free ice rings everywhere in the town to practice your iceskating skills ;-)
WHY WE ARE ON VEGVISITS?
Mainly to help good people travel.
Also we will use it sometimes to visit ourselves.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
We have a room for guests with a queen bed (for 2). Very comfortable.
There is some space available in the cupboards for guests' clothes and stuff.
The room is bright and pleasant.
It has a big balcony (more than 10 square meters/110 square feet, so almost a terrace).
We will provide the sheets.
Also, we cand lend you some towels if you don't have yours.
The only thing is that we have to go through this room 2 or 3 times a day, as the terrace is the backdoor of the house, so we use it sometime to come in or go out.
So it is actually halfway between a private and a public room, let's say 80% private-20% public.
It has a door, so 100% private at nights ;-)
This room has a semi-private bathroom (as we have our own bathroom upstairs).
Additionnally, we also have several others 1 person and 2 persons inflatable mattresses that we can put in several places in the flat.
Several people that slept in the room during the summer told us that they sometimes heard a very light hum from the neighbour's AC (it is on his terrace).
But it is a very light and regular hum (more like a white noise actually) so it never prevented anyone from having a very good sleep.
WHAT WE CAN SHARE WITH GUESTS
Food (if they are not ogres).
Space, terrace.
Wifi, TV, Netflix.
Piano, guitar.
Ice skates.
Jokes, happiness ;-)
FAVORITE MUSIC, MOVIES, AND BOOKS?
Axel: Horror and science-fiction books and movies.
Violaine: Thrillers.

Having been vegetarian for a long time we became vegan in 2015 after many seeds had been planted over the years... we set up our vegan studio in 2017 Hence the name, "Planted"! We live in a Victorian house near the center of a lovely village. In North Cornwall. We have renovated it as sympathetically as possible using lime render and exposing some of the original beams. We try to be as green as we can and have solar panels and a biomass boiler. We use vegan cleaning products and our veg comes from our allotment or is bought as locally and organically as possible. We rent out the studio all year round, and are here most of the time. We've stayed in lots of b&b's in the past and have taken ideas and inspiration from them. This is somewhere we'd like to stay. It has its own separate entrance and feels very private. It has all the breakfast basics to begin your stay and home cooked food in the evenings if you'd like it at £9 per person for dinner and £3 for desserts. There are also restaurants in the village that have vegan options and a pizza takeaway close by that can make you up a vegan pizza! Plus a vegan bakery which do amazing cake and pasties. Let us know if you have any allergies or would prefer certain plant based milks/spreads. Minimum stay two nights.
I'm a 30 year old avid athlete, artist, musician, and animal lover. You can normally find me running (training for a 100 miler), painting, playing piano, or playing pool. Also fond of yoga and swimming. I like to stay active and I like to be around other happy people. A simple life is a good life!
