We are a married couple with a cat, sharing our friendly vegetarian home in the beach suburb of Maroubra, in Sydney. We travel as often as we can, both in Australia and overseas, and we love to get out and about in nature - even if it's just a weekend away in our trusty camper van. We are open, honest people and we like to think of our home as an environment where people can connect and share rather than just as a space to eat and sleep. We are from multicultural backgrounds ourselves and we enjoy hosting guests from around the world. Being vegetarians we always appreciate hosting vegetarian or vegan guests, and we look forward to having you to stay!

Getting around the area
Unlike other beaches in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Maroubra is laid back and not overdeveloped. There are supermarkets and smaller shops nearby at Maroubra Junction, and there are some great little cafes opening up in the area, including the Grumpy Baker and Chalk, near the beach. There are bus routes that service the city with stops near our front door. If you arrive in Sydney by plane it shouldn't cost much more than $20 to get a taxi to our place, and if you are travelling in your own vehicle there is always free on-street parking outside. A stroll to the beach is about five minutes by foot, and UNSW is fifteen minutes away by bicycle.

About This Space
A closer look at the stay
About
Our friendly vegetarian home is located close to Maroubra beach. Buses to the city stop near the front door, and the bedrooms have views to the sea. The kitchen, bathroom, lounge and garden are communal and set up for a relaxing and comfortable stay.
The space
This king-single room is modestly sized and east facing with good size windows and sea views. We have bedding and towels available if you don't have your own. The bathroom is clean and spacious. You are welcome to share the communal areas in the house, and to make use of the garden and laundry facilities. We have a compost bin for food scraps and there are rubbish and recycling facilities by the front gate. There is a Hills Hoist in the garden and there are indoor clotheslines in the laundry in case it rains. For relaxing at home we have an eclectic library of DVDs and plenty of good books that you are welcome to watch / read during your stay.
The kitchen
The kitchen is a good size for preparing meals. There is plenty of cupboard space and we have a separate bar fridge for our guest/s :)
Other things to note
The grass verge down to our front gate from the footpath is a bit steep, and there are also steps up to our front door, so access for guests without full mobility would be difficult. Being an older house, there are some great period features such as high ceilings, stained glass windows and polished floorboards, but the rooms are not well soundproofed. The middle bedroom is adjacent to the kitchen, and the northern bedroom is off the lounge, so although we are not noisy by nature, there may be some ambient sound from the use of these spaces. Please also note that the house is shoes-off inside and that the garden is shared with the downstairs unit of the house. 'Padder' is an indoors cat, so don't let her escape!

We enjoy a shared meal when we're around, but you can choose to spend time with us or not, as suits your plans. We have previously found postgraduate students to be a good fit for our home, as it is best suited to mindful guests who are looking for something more than just a cheap place to stay. We expect our guests to self-cater and to be respectful of our neighbours and of our home. We live with a (non-vegetarian) cat. We ask that you only smoke outside, if you must. Please note that a minimum booking of five nights generally applies, and that preference is given to longer stays.
