I am an artist and academic who is an adjunct senior lecturer at the School of Creative Arts & Media, University of Tasmania. Having felt like I was running an informal B&B for many years for friends and family,I decided she may as well offer my home and hospitality to other travellers. I have been hosting on AirBnB for a couple of years with a caveat that all guests must be veg*n at home, but when I heard about VegVisits I was really excited! Yvette is keen vegan cook and an active advocate for animals.

Getting around the area
This part of West Hobart is heritage listed and one of the oldest parts of Hobart. It is very central, being on the edge of the CBD. There are many cafes, bars and restaurants nearby, with the cafe/restaurant strip in Elizabeth Street North Hobart a short walk away, and Salamanca a 20 minute walk. The renowned Hill Street Grocer is a 5 - 7 minute walk away if you want to stock up on quality food stuffs (they also sell prepared heat-and-eat meals), and Smolt Kitchen, Pigeon hole Bakery/Cafe, & Room for a Pony are all great breakfast places and just a short stroll away. If you feel like a bush walk, Knocklofty Reserve is also close by and there are numerous walking trails there (it's a very short drive or about a 20 minute walk to the bush).

About This Space
A closer look at the stay
About
"The Cave" is a stylish and unique self-contained apartment under my centrally located 1885 West Hobart home. It is a 15 minute walk to the city centre and a short walk to the Elizabeth Street North Hobart cafe strip. With the stairs to the entry and the bed in a raised platform "nook", "The Cave" may not be for everyone, but if you're looking for well located lodgings that ooze atmosphere I think you'll love it!
The space
The Cave is well appointed, private, cosy and comfortable, with access to the garden. I have put thought and effort into it having everything you might need, for a long or short stay. For e.g. the kitchen has everything you should need for cooking, including a stick blender, there is a bluetooth speaker for music, and there is Chromecast available on the TV. However, I request that you don't cook meat or fish (I am vegan and the smell lingers in the space and can transfer to my home upstairs). Please note that there are stairs to negotiate and also that the bed is on a raised platform. Also, there may be guests (and me!) in the house above you, and though I have worked hard in the renovation to minimize sound transfer between the house and "the cave" you will likely hear some footsteps etc. I am open to pets staying, but please check with me first. No more than 2 dogs are allowed and a one off additional cleaning fee of $20 per stay applies. Pets must be kept under control at all times (I have a cat and a dog - my dog is great with other dogs but my cat is less so). They are not be allowed on the couch or bed unless you bring your own clean, hair-free covers, and any mess in the garden must be cleaned up. I live upstairs, and so the garden and laundry outside "The Cave" is shared.
The kitchen
There is a full kitchen (oven, stove, dishwasher, microwave), pots and pans, baking/casserole dishes, salad bowls, stick blender etc. I supply a range of teas, coffee, sugar, non-dairy milks, and spreads (margarine, jams etc), organic and gluten-free mueslis, fruit, and there is bread in the freezer for toast. I also supply oil, vinegar, salt and pepper for cooking, and there are some other basics (pasta, rice, etc). You're also welcome to help yourself to herbs from the garden. I am very happy to give you herbs and spices from my supply - just ask :-)
Other things to note
I live an eco-friendly lifestyle and would really appreciate your help with this. I try and minimise plastic use, I compost fruit and vegetable scraps (the compost bin is under the kitchen sink), recycle, and turn off lights and heating when they're not needed. I have a dog and cat but you may not see them as both spend most of ther time indoors.
