Hi ! I am a longtime lacto-vegetarian and have been following a yoga diet and lifestyle since the 80's when I joined an ashram in London. I live on the edge of town in Featherston, Wairarapa in New Zealand where I grow most of my own organic veg. I am a practising artist and a newcomer to pottery. I try to visit India regularly to immerse myself in the precepts and practice of bhakti yoga.

Getting around the area

My house is perfect for families and friends for a quiet relaxing getaway to the Wairarapa. Just an hour from Wellington by train or car, Featherston is gateway to the stunning Wairarapa valley. From here you can explore the countryside by foot or by bike or head off to the wild south coast by car, enjoy the many local vineyards and cafes, or experience the many events hosted in the region. When in Greytown, call by Kotare Gallery to view some of my artworks. The space Enjoy plenty of space in this lovely light and airy low tech house. With 2 queen sized rooms and a single room available there is plenty of space for you and your friends to relax and feel comfortable in. Kitchen/ dining and living area are open-plan and warmed by the wood fire. On a sunny day, sit outside on the private patio or when Featherston turns on the weather, hunker down by the fire with a good book. Guest access Enjoy the use of the whole front of the house, courtyard and garden. Sometimes I stay at the house as my art studio occupies a separate space at the rear where I often work when I don't have guests.

About This Space

A closer look at the stay

About

My place is a great base for exploring the region with easy access to the wild South Coast. It is on the cycle way from Featherston to Cross Creek which is the start of the Rimutaka Incline Trail, and is also well situated for enjoying the many regional walks. 15 minutes away, discover the picturesque Tauherenikau River Valley where you can walk the river gorge track or cool off with a swim in the river. For the shopper in you, Greytown is just 10 minutes away and it's only 15 minutes to the vineyards of Martinborough. Enjoy exploring Featherstons' unique gourmet delights - C'est Cheese, the Baker, Sweet and Salty (Italian Delhi), as well as a plethora of quirky vintage, book and coffee shops.

The space

There are 2 reasonable size bedrooms with Queen Beds, an open plan living/dining/kitchen area, a bathroom with handbasin and shower and a separate toilet. My place is a low tech, uncluttered cosy and comfortable space to spend time rain or shine. The woodfire is a joy in cooler weather and lends itself to hunkering down with a good book and some laid back vibes.

The kitchen

I personally like to cook on the woodburner on a cosy winter night and whenever I can. My kitchen has a four ringed gas burner, an electric oven and a reasonably large fridge. There's a toaster, kettle and standard size food processor for use.

Other things to note

Please make yourselves at home, enjoy and respect the place and try to leave it as you found it - neat and tidy ! The house is a shoe-free environment so remember to bring some cosy socks and slippers for your stay ; ) Please - no smoking, parties, loud music, pets or bikes inside and no loud noise past 10pm. A key can be provided for the shed on request for bike storage.
