I am the Founder and Director of SARA Sanctuary, located on 128 acres in Central Texas. Our sanctuary has been around for almost 30 years and is home to about 700 animals of all kinds. We decided to open accommodations in our new 'barn-dominium' and invite visitors and volunteers to experience the magic of SARA and the beauty of our pigs, donkeys, horses, cattle, cats, dogs, and goats and to see diverse wildlife up close. We are on the migration path of many birds and the monarch butterfly. Stay with us for an unforgettable experience like no other! To respect the animals we protect, we ask our guests to eat only plant-based meals while staying with us.

We have SARA merchandise available for sale. The space is not wheelchair accessible because of a 2-story staircase leading to the deck and bunkhouse. At the moment, the upper deck guests can use the private toilet and sink downstairs inside the barn. The soaking tub is not functioning right now. Or for the adventurous outdoorsy types, we have a fun, clean outdoor shower and bathroom that is shared with staff.

Getting around the area
The only traffic noise is a tractor or pickup truck for feeding pigs. Guests will experience nighttime sanctuary noises from coyotes howling, pigs snorting, and crickets and frogs chirping. In the morning awaken to the sound of birds chirping, dogs barking and the crowing of roosters. If you don't find any of these country noises soothing, bring ear plugs.

About
Animal Sanctuary Barn Stay with Upper Deck & Sunset Views. SARA Sanctuary is home to 700+ animals on 128 acres in Central Texas. Our guests can interact with animals as a visitor or as a volunteer helping with daily chores like cleaning, feeding, and watering.
The space
The big red barn has one accommodation upstairs which has a panorama deck that overlooks the sanctuary. The views from any angle are ever-changing with movement of the animals, the sun and weather. This bunkhouse is spacious with room for a family with kids or teens. The door opens to the deck and guests need to be mindful of the stairs. The bunkhouse has 1 queen bed under the barn roof beams and 3 couches in a living room seating area. The place is air conditioned and heated and has a full-sized fridge and a coffee spot. Two windows face the deck for sanctuary views. The third window looks down into the barn. 🚽🛀 THE BEST LITTLE OUTHOUSE IN TEXAS The tin shed with the wooden door is called The Best Little Outhouse in Texas with the best views on the property. Experience a fresh morning rinse in our outdoor shower. The Outhouse also has indoor plumbing with a toilet and sink. It's about 50 steps from the barn. 🚿🛁 🚽BATHROOM The bunkhouse does not have a bathroom or toilet upstairs. Inside the barn & downstairs is the guests only toilet, tub & shower. You will need to go down the stairs and into the barn to access the bathroom.
The kitchen
Guests have the possibility to cook in our shared kitchen shed. The kitchen has a view of the pig herds in one direction and a view of the barn and pond from the front door. Bring your own plant-based groceries or you can also order your own groceries online with H-E-B store pickup in Seguin. Or have snacks, ingredients or meals provided by our SARA. We ask for a donation for the extra service of providing groceries or meals.
Other things to note
When considering snacks and food for yourself, think about fruits and veggies that you can feed the animals too, like carrots, apples, corn, pumpkins, and watermelon. You will make friends fast with treats. WiFi high-speed internet is available on the property. There is a large-screen TV in the upstairs guest room.

Our sanctuary staff is small and very focused on keeping the animals and guests safe. We realize this can be a wonderful family experience to stay on the sanctuary grounds together and teach children how to respect all living creatures. However, children of any age need to be with a parent or guardian at all times. Bringing your own pets is not allowed on the sanctuary property. We have separate enclosures for our dogs which keep them safe from each other, other animals and from human encounters. Not all dogs like other dogs. Not all dogs like humans. Not all dogs like other farm animals. To keep our guests and all of our animals safe, we ask you not to bring your own animals to the sanctuary.
