Getting around the area
Koha Heavens, aptly named, we are the last property on a one mile closed road. 20 minutes drive from the airport, but a world away for the hustle and bustle of the city. A true Nature preserve. Places to walk and hike from our door, and a few minutes drive takes you to many more. Getting around: A car rental is necessary, virtually no public transportation. At 1100' elevation, biking is impractical.

About This Space
A closer look at the stay
About
Banyan Tree Sanctuary is a unique gem on the west side of the Big Island of Hawaii, the dry side. We are located 15 minutes away from several great beaches, also to downtown Kona, and 20 minutes from the airport. At 1100' elevation, we enjoy slightly cooler temperatures and get more condensation, but that is fine with us, as we avoid the heat and extreme dryness of the coast, yet it is very easy to get there by car.
The space
We enjoy year-round beautiful weather, with temperatures in the mid 70's to 80's, for the most part, with nighttime temps in the 60's. We have six separate spaces (rooms & bungalows) that rent independently as well as the whole sanctuary, and we can accommodate up to 12 people in the beds (if all are couples). However, if everyone needs their own bed and/or sleeping surface, we have a total of 8 beds. We get more rain than downtown Kona because we are at 1100' elevation, but still get plenty of sunshine. It is a perfect tropical growing environment. Guest access: Other than the chlorine free saltwater pool and Jacuzzi and the infra-red sauna,we have 3.2 acres of land, a walking labyrinth, a big organic garden, a 30' diameter structure called the Mothership for yoga, dance, meditation, playing music, watching documentaries,(access to Amazon Prime, Netflix streaming, Pandora, etc) and a well stocked library. There is a main sun deck and a private lanai for one of our rental units on the third floor. We have wifi property wide, awesome ocean and sunset/moonset views, a large native bird population that roost in the banyan trees and sing the sun up in the morning and the sun set in the evening.
The kitchen
Banyan Tree Sanctuary is a plant-based healing ohana on the Kona, or west coast on the Big Island of Hawaii. We ask that while you are our guest, you refrain from cooking or eating any meat (beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, fish, etc.) dairy (cheese, ice cream, half and half, yogurt, milk, etc.) on the property. We are okay with organic free-range eggs. We encourage you to embrace a plant-based lifestyle while staying with us as all residents are plant-based. The community kitchen is well stocked for use by 10+ people at a time, and we occasionally share meals. Fresh garden produce is often available, for an extra fee, and we almost always have some organic fruit from our trees, depending on the season. We have juicers, a vitamix, a cuisinart, rice cooker, two full size refrigerators, Excalibur dehydrator, and plenty of sharp knives and cutting boards, counter space, etc.
Other things to note
We have two outdoor cats, Sacha and Cici. Onsite parking is available. We have good wifi in the rooms and the common areas. It is very quiet, except when some building may be happening on a neighbor's property. This is a listing for the whole sanctuary, but we have individual spaces starting at $150 a night, plus a cleaning fee: https://www.vegvisits.com/rooms/27616

We are a small group of people sharing a very special and unique property on the Big Island of Hawaii. Since some of the areas are shared; i.e. the main kitchen, the dining area and some living areas, we ask that you respect any and all common areas and pick up after yourself. This includes, but is not restricted to: wet towels, shoes, backpack, laptops and other electronic devices, clothes, etc. Certain areas are available on a simple reservation basis, such as the Mother Ship, by putting your name and time of requested use on a little whiteboard by the door. We are a vegan community, and we ask that while you stay here, you refrain from bringing any animal products into the kitchen; no meat, dairy or eggs. We are also a NO SMOKING facility, so we ask that you please do not smoke in any part of Banyan Tree or on the grounds. We have quiet time from 9pm to 8am, which means you are welcome to use the Jacuzzi, pool, or common spaces after 9pm, as long as you are respectful and quiet in your movements. Although there is no requirement to do so, if you feel moved to spend some time in the gardens watering or weeding, we always welcome that kind of energy.
