I used to use Couchsurfing, for more than a decade, but when they did the "pay money or we will delete your account forever" thing, that was a bit much. But it had already deteriorated drastically before that. It used to be a place of alternative types willing to freely share without asking anything in return. Then it was overrun (what CS considered being a successful company) by, well, I don't want to say banker types because that wouldn't be thoughtful (and I've met at least two pretty nice bankers, vegan bankers at that), but people who were looking for kicks, hook-ups, people who had never thought of the word solidarity, never heard the name Kropotkin, and couldn't tell the difference between ethic and ethnic.

Fun Facts About Me

This reminds me of when a neighbour who had just moved into the building knocked on my door asking if I had some salt. Well, I was probably the only person in the entire city who did NOT have salt. Her face filled with a kind of mild version of horror.

Hobbies & Interests

I love to skate.

Favorite Quote

The one with "goobledigook" by Donald Watson maybe; and maybe "Is there really such a thing as a waste of time?"; and "Here comes the judge"; and "The passing night sky fills with people I know"; and "The bourgeoisie better watch out for me"; and many more :D

Neighborhood

Getting around the area

This is a small town. Napoleon's cousin used to live in the castle, and prayer during the Second World War "brought" a thunderstorm that prevented the town from being bombed. That is as interesting as it gets.

About This Space

A closer look at the stay

About

Studio flat, own bathroom, no own kitchen, vegan, 25 m2. Access to garden, easy access to supermarkets, trains, restaurants, some museums, post office, and (at the moment) the "Landesgartenschau"

The space

Our place is a work in progress and quite beautiful, and a bit weird. This is what could be described as a "studio flat". The main house (upstairs) is our family home. The place I can offer here is a newly renovated single room with a private bathroom (toilet, sink, shower). At the moment there is NO "kitchenette" (fridge, oven, stove, kitchen sink, dishwasher, microwave) - but you may be able to cook upstairs (please double-check with me). I may also be able to put certain gadgets downstairs, e.g., blender, juicer, waffle maker, ... The space used to be my mother's physiotherapy space. And there is still an overhead infrared heat therapy lamp - which you can use :D There's a big garden in the back (which you can use) and behind that only nature. It's about 15 min walking from the train station (I say 10 min, Google maps says 20 min) and less than 10 min to ALDI. The bed is an old-style German single bed, measuring 90 × 190 cm (about 35 × 75 inches), slightly narrower and shorter than a standard "U.S. twin bed". This is a small town. There are lakes for swimming (in the summer) nearby (best to cycle). There is a castle and big churches. With the German monthly train ticket (Deutschlandticket aka D-Ticket) you can easily reach Stuttgart or Ulm (for example). Everyone who lives here is vegan (if they are there at all). There are no "pets" we have, but you may see the occasional neighbours' cat walk through the garden. I have recorded over 70 different bird species in our garden :) In winter, you may ocassionally see some deer visiting the garden. The room is about 20 square metres (215 square feet) and the bathroom about 4.5 square metres (48 square feet). There is a mattress and bedding, of course - they're just not in the photos yet. We have vegan cleaning products and toiletries, but I don't offer single-use packs of soap etc. I can also add an armchair or two to the space. We recycle the rubbish: paper, packaging/plastic/cans ("yellow sack"), compost, glass.

The kitchen

The studio flat only has a counter space. But upstairs there is a full kitchen.

Other things to note

No companion non-humans live here. Very easy to find parking. Good WIFI. Very quiet usually.
