About
Sadhana Forest is a sustainable living volunteer community in Auroville, south India. We work on water conservation and reforestation, bringing the indigenous ecosystem back to life on 70 acres of severely degraded land. ---- We are open for volunteers year round and always have space available for them. ---- The volunteer work consists of tree planting and tree care, and various maintenance tasks around the campus, such as cooking. We are one of the only vegan reforestation organizations in the world and do not use animal manure as fertilizer, instead using humanure from our dry compost toilets. ---- We also have a vegan animal sanctuary for rescued cows that were abandoned or destined for slaughter, and a vegan gift economy tea hut where we offer vegan chai and sweets to all our volunteers and visitors. On top of that we serve tens of thousands of vegan meals per year to our volunteers and our many visitors.
The space
In return for 25-35 hrs of seva (selfless service) per week, we offer you accommodation in traditional huts made from local natural materials on our off-the-grid, solar-powered, zero waste campus.
The kitchen
All our food is vegan, non-processed (wholefood), and mostly local and organic. Volunteers contribute 600 Indian Rupees (approx. 8 USD) to cover for the cost of three vegan meals per day and biodegradable toiletries.
