The house is quirky and surprisingly spacious when you step through the front door. It is an older terraced house which benefits from sunshine in all of the rooms at ,some point during the day. The guest room is facing south so is quite bright on sunny days. The bathroom is on the first floor, situated off the landing, which leads to the guest room. There is a downstairs toilet (also newly decorated) just outside the kitchen door. A new kitchen was fitted Dec 2020, it’s approx 22 feet long by 8 feet wide, so is roomy to work in and benefits from the morning sunshine.
The space
We are offering the twin bedroom, bathroom with shower over the bath, downstairs toilet, and sitting rooms (shared with us) for TV if required. One sitting room has the TV, The other is used for reading, chatting or checking emails etc.
Guest access: Welcome to use Wi Fi for checking emails, FB etc.
The kitchen
Our kitchen is vegan. Maisie & Lina have vegan dog food, occasionally their treat biscuits are not fully vegan (due to nowhere selling vegan dog food where we live) but we try to order, or make, enough. Their feeding bowls and utensils are kept separate from ours.
The hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine & dryer are available to guests. Also, cooking pans etc.
Other things to note
We are situated just a 5 minute walk from the railway station. Trains run to Barrow-in-Furness, Ulverston, Grange-over-Sands, and Lancaster or, Ravenglass, Seascale, Sellafield, Whitehaven, Workington and Carlisle. Plus stations in between. Coniston is a 40 minute drive, Wastwater approx an hour's drive. Times may be less as we have a camper-van so slower.
There's a Local Nature Reserve, The Ironworks SSSI, (known locally as The Slaggy) home to Natterjack toads, and a variety of orchids (in season) just 15 minutes walk from the house. The RSPB reserve Hodbarrow is approximately 20-30 minutes walk. From there the sea-wall can be accessed and provides an interesting walk to Haverigg, with a bird hide and great views. A good stopping off point is Herdwicks for a cuppa and snack. Yes they serve almond and other plant milks! I even saw dairy-free ice-cream on the menu. Plus the good 'ole standby, chips with salad, toasted teacake and usually a vegan soup.
The estuary walk begins just 5 mins from the house and has fabulous views of mountains and hills.....on a clear day.

We moved to Cumbria in 2017 and now feel we'd like to share our home with others who enjoy the area. We are an older couple who have plenty of free time for a chat and a cuppa, if visitors want to. Our dogs Maisie and Alina enjoy the walks and are very friendly with whoever comes to our home, but they are kept out of the guest rooms. Our interests are wildlife and the natural surroundings. We still say "Wow!" when we view the mountains.
