About this space

The 2-story private bungalow is part of Mayachik, an ecological hostel, vegetarian restaurant and community center. It has 3 double beds, solar heated hot shower, compost toilet, hammock, and great views. Ideal for families or groups for up to 6 people.

The space

MayAchik is a combination of three Tz'utujil words and means Magical Mayan Dreams. MayAchik is an ecologically constructed natural paradise, preferred by people from all over the world. It is a place to enjoy full contact with nature and our exclusive view of the Indian Nose, an ideal space to unwind and share knowledge and culture with the locals. MayAchik is the dream that you can choose, either to rest and relax or to take advantage of workshops, excursions, massages, temazcal (sauna) and exquisite local and international cuisine. The bungalow has 3 big comfortable beds which sleep up to 2 people. This makes it ideal for families or groups of up to 6 people. The shower comes with solar heated hot water and you can easily adjust the amount and pressure of hot and cold water. On the patio you can relax in one of our hammocks.

Guest access: Guests will have access to complimentary WI-FI, purified water, yoga platform and our big beautiful garden.

At additional costs we provide temazcal/sauna, relaxing massages and laundry service.

Our vegetarian restaurant is open from 7:30 am until 8 pm every day, and on request we also provide food outside of our opening hours.

We also have an Mayan alter where you can do your offering and on request we can also arrange for a Mayan ceremony or a reading of your Mayan horoscope (nawal).

The kitchen

Our restaurant kitchen is completely vegetarian and so is the menu that we are offering in our restaurant. We also advice all our guests that the guest kitchen is as well vegetarian but sometimes guests don´t comply with that. The guest kitchen is available at all times and is equiped with a small gas stove, filtered water and basic cooking utensils. On request we lend additional cooking tools, like a blender from the restaurant.

Neighbourhood

San Juan La Laguna is a quiet and traditional village where people really like to interact with guests. Here Mayan culture is still very alive and you can choose to either observe it or participate.
San Juan is especially famous for weavings with naturally dyed and locally grown cotton and its many art galleries where you can meet with local artists and enjoy their vivid paintings. You´ll also see many of those paintings (murals) on walls around the village.
Another landmark is the Indian Nose, a local mountain which provides amazing views of the lake and the surrounding villages.

Getting around: You can reach San Juan by public buses (camionetas, chicken bus), lanchas, tourist shuttles, or tuk tuks from the neighbor villages.
All public transport that goes to San Pedro La Laguna, stops first in San Juan.
We can also arrange private shuttles from the airport or any other place in Guatemala.
