About this space
Keep It Simple is the Davis Frame post and beam home that was shipped on a barge to Nantucket in 2004 and was constructed by several tradesmen including my husband and son. The vaulted ceilings soar to almost thirty feet. It is an open plan living dining area with a full kitchen that opens onto a farmer’s porch across the back of the home overlooking the backyard gardens. There is an ell on the first floor with three twin beds and a full wall of floor to ceiling bookshelves. It’s our library when the grandchildren are not visiting. The ell also has a cathedral ceiling. There is a full bathroom I. The first floor. The second floor has two bedrooms and a full bathroom all of which have vaulted ceilings. There are more bookshelves on the second floor.
The space
Soaring ceilings give the feeling of lots of open space. The Douglas Fir posts and beams make the house feel massive and strong as the sea-faring tall ships that used to sail from this island in the 18th and 19th centuries. We have a collection of hundreds of books—novels, art books, gardening books, travel books, as well as just about every book we could get our hands on about Nantucket!

My husband and I have traveled extensively in Europe, Canada, India, and South America. We have been strict vegetarians—no meat, fish,fowl, or eggs for over 50 years. We both have practiced Surat Shabd Yoga since 1970 and have made numerous trips to participate in meditation retreats in India with our spiritual teachers. We have two adult children who are vegetarians and five grandchildren who are vegetarians, and one has become a strict vegan. We have even had seven dogs who have thrived as vegetarians and have lived for over 12 to 15 years! I love to garden and have created many different kinds of gardens—veggies, roses, herbs, perennials, and water gardens in homes we have owned. My husband loves painting. During our younger years we cleared land and built three homes in rural New Hampshire and on Nantucket. We also renovated a home on Sanibel island in Florida. Jeff was a nurse and I was a special education teacher in our pre-retirement lives. We have two vacation homes that we will only rent to vegetarians or vegans.
