We are a couple who moved, over 20 years ago, from an inner-city executive life to a large rural property in beautiful central Victoria. Our home is also home to over 120 rescued animals and a safe place for abundant native wildlife. Our time is spent caring for the animals, maintaining the property and garden, and local community work. Our accommodation helps to fund care for the animals

About This Space
A closer look at the stay
About
Set on 300 acres, the cottage overlooks our native forest, grasslands and Mt Kooroocheang. Moorakyle Retreat is a relaxing, stylish and comfortable getaway. The cottage is fully self contained and set apart from the main house, modern, well appointed and filled with natural light. We are just 15 minutes from Daylesford and touring distance for all that the lovely central highlands can offer. A deep veranda overlooks our creek, a lovely dam, and the native forest beyond. Our rescue animals are nearby and most evenings the kangaroos will come out of the forest to graze. The kitchen is fully equipped, including basic provisions. After a relaxing day, sleep in superbly comfortable king size bed with high-quality bedding and linen.
The space
You have the cottage to yourselves, set in the garden with a pretty paved and shady courtyard. Take a walk in the forest….60 acres of native trees, grasses and seasonal wildflowers. We know you will respect the native plants and animals in our care. Many will be around for you to meet. Please note we do not allow free access to all areas. Bookings are required for most local eateries. This is a rural area. You need a car to get here and to get around. Taxis are not always available, and Uber is not an option!
The kitchen
There is a full kitchen. Our supplies are all vegan, however we do allow guests to bring dairy if that is their preference.
Other things to note
Our property is home to over 120 rescued animals who you will encounter during your stay, as most are free to roam. Please note we do not offer tours, and not all areas of the property are accessible to guests. Only booked guests are permitted on the property.
