I became vegan in 2012 with my then fiancé now husband, Nik, who had been vegan before but had stopped for a couple of years. After viewing the documentary ‘Vegucated’ together, my vegetarian self decided it was time to become fully vegan, and Nik was on board again. In 2013, we moved to Portland, Oregon from Southern California and have been loving it here ever since. The Pacific Northwest has my heart! We both enjoy cooking, hiking, cycling, and playing music ( I play drums and sing, he plays a little bit of everything). Aside from the plethora of beautiful natural wonders the Pacific Northwest offers, we love the city of Portland for being such a vegan mecca. We have utilized VegVisits several times and have been fortunate to make some lasting friends through this wonderful platform. We originally hosted a couple from Quebec, Canada in 2016, and we were so thrilled to have the chance to travel to Canada and stay with them in their providence in 2019. Before we bussed to their providence from Montreal, we also stayed with another superb couple via Vegvisits in Montreal. They were so kind and we still try to stay in touch with them (we are happy to give prospective hosts/guests their names for references). And in 2016 we also hosted a cool couple from Daytona, Florida. We love VegVisits and the connections we’ve made with other like-minded animal lovers!

My Lifestyle

Vegan animal lover. Dog mom to a rescue, our sweet Seymour. Cat mom to a sassy cat named Marigold. Big time gardener! Estate sale & Yard Sale lover. Second-hand shopper as much as possible. Hot Yoga lover. On & Off Runner. I'm a lover of Europe and vibrant cultures. Nature is key to my happiness. Flower & Tree addict.

Fun Facts About Me

I love music and have dj’d many bars, weddings, school dances and birthday parties. I’m an avid student of the French language, and my husband, Nik, has been teaching himself Icelandic for a few years now. I taught at a Montessori for many years but am now a public educator for elementary ages. Nik is a digital designer and lover of making art and being outdoors as much as possible.

Hobbies & Interests

I love to commute by bike as much as possible. I try to practice hot yoga often. One of our favorite things to do is hike in the PNW, and hike anywhere when traveling! I love to read fiction, non-fiction, and memoirs.

About This Space

A closer look at the stay

About

Cozy 3 bedroom home in North Portland's historic St Johns neighborhood. We are located right next to the largest city park in Portland, Pier Park-- famous for its disc golf course, skatepark, pickle-ball courts, local swimming pool, and most notably, its gorgeous forest with multiple trails.

The space

Our guest bedroom is on the main floor of our home and situated right next to the bathroom. The guest bedroom has a queen sized bed, a antique stand-up sewing machine, and 2 closets. One of the closets will be available for guest use. The bedroom has a wall heater that we ask not be turned on longer than 2 hours max. There are also 2 windows in the bedroom that have screens and can be opened for fresh air if desired.

The kitchen

We store only vegan food in our fridge and cupboards and ask that guests follow this. Since our kitchen is small and doesn't have a lot of pantry space, we ask that you keep your shelf stable foods in your bedroom if buying a large amount. Our fridge & freezer is available for storing your vegan groceries or leftovers.

Other things to note

Street parking is easy and free in our neighborhood, and our neighborhood is fairly quiet most of the time (some summer weekend mornings can bring lots of people to the nearby park for sport events). We have a small mutt named Seymour who is 3 years old and very social and friendly. We also have a cat named Marigold who is a bit more sassy and can enjoy humans on her own terms if she's in the mood.
