We are passionate about sustainability and compassionate living. I've been vegetarian since age 11, and when my wife and I met, she switched back to her former vegetarian lifestyle in 2011. We've always loved to host, and accommodate the needs of others, so we were each cooking vegan for decades. We finally went from 90% to 100% plant-based in 2015, after I bought a vegan cheesemaking cookbook. I'm an Architect, and Bethany is a Realtor. Now I've designed our dream home with a dream kitchen for cooking demonstrations, and we are excited to share our eco-designed Passiv Haus with like-minded guests!
My Lifestyle
I live and breathe sustainability. I'm very lucky to make my living improving the planet and raising awareness by providing LEED building designs, training, and sustainability consulting for companies. Of course, I never miss an opportunity to kindly remind my fellow sustainability experts that their diet has a huge impact on climate change. We live in a walkable community with wonderful neighbors. Our home is all-electric, Net Zero Energy with green credits, and entirely native and no-mow landscaping. 100% of rainfall is captured on site with rain gardens and rain barrels, which is also used to water our prolific vegetable gardens.
Fun Facts About Me
Married to my soulmate, Bethany, and blissfully celebrating 10 years of marriage on 11.11.11!!! I've traveled to all 50 states, as of 2021, and Alaska was my 50th! I've lived in Durant, OK, Dallas, TX, Oxford, MI, Austin, TX, and Ypsilanti, MI before moving to Indianapolis in 2013. Bethany has been to 49 states (Oregon will be her 50th soon!) and she has lived in Toledo, OH, Ann Arbor, MI, Ypsilanti, MI, and now joined me in Indy after finishing her Masters Degree in HR & Organizational Development.

Neighborhood
Getting around the area
Indianapolis is the top 20 cities in the U.S., & Our little neighborhood was voted top 10 for local food by Zaggot, and, boy, are there a lot of great places to walk to! We are close to EVERYTHING. Our neighborhood has been undergoing a major transformation over the past decade, and as you walk around you'll see a mix of modern & historic, totally remodeled & waiting for retrofits, and a rich mix of people that make our neighborhood so awesome and interesting. It's a very close-kit neighborhood with stellar community collaboration, which supports the entrepreneurial spirit. That's why we love it here so much! (This is not the suburbs. If historic, gentrifying, and eclectic urban centers make you uncomfortable, you might be better off at the Hilton. For the rest of us urban-lovers, you are in for a treat!) We are on a quiet residential street, still just 6 blocks walking distance to a wide variety of local restaurants, coffee shops, bars, grocery stores, parks, shopping, entertainment, local breweries, and only 1.5 miles from downtown. You'll really love the plethora of options for dining downtown and in the square, for herbivores and omnivores alike. The Cultural Trail connects Fountain Square to downtown Indy by foot or bicycle on a safe and friendly urban path. A 15-30 minute walk will get you to the thriving downtown, and there is lots more to explore when you rent one of the city's BikeShare bikes!

About
Architect's dream! Come indulge in our recently built concrete Passiv Haus, designed by Architect Kelly. Located in one of the coolest neighborhoods in Indy, just minutes from downtown. The space
Our home resides on a quiet residential street features a covered front porch and back patio for relaxing at the end of your day or waving at the neighbors. Free on-street parking available along the block, so you can park the car and walk a short 6 blocks to the heart of the Square! Inside our fenced in back yard, you can enter the gorgeous glass stairtower from the shared back patio. We come and go this way with our dog, Zaha, as well, but will coordinate with you so you're not met with unexpected dog barks or kisses. Downstairs in the garden level, you have your entire apartment to yourself: Studio bedroom space, full bathroom, located off the home theater/living room. Studio has a kitchenette (built by us, with 100% upcycled materials), stocked with kitchen essentials, and other eco-friendly details. Concrete floors are stained a stunning ocean color. You’ll enjoy the BEST SLEEP on our Tempurpedic mattress in the super quiet and soothing space (most guests sleep in hours later than usual). The garden level is heated and cooled on its own zone with a ductless mini-split. The downstairs bathroom features a dual-flush toilet, LED lights, and sensors that turn on/off the nightlight automatically (super handy in the middle of the night!). We use eco-friendly products in our home, so please enjoy your sustainable stay with us, and everything you need is available to you in an environmentally friendly version!
The kitchen
This kitchenette is minimally stocked with an apartment fridge, an induction hot plate, a toaster oven, microwave, coffee press, and electric tea kettle. We built this kitchenette ourselves, with 100% second hand, upcycled cabinets, counter, sink, and faucet.
Other things to note
Enjoy free on-street parking available. You’ll have a private entrance from the backyard, and are welcome to hang out on the peaceful back patio or gardens as much as you like! Extremely quiet space, due to concrete walls (ICF). 5G Wifi. Our dog and cat live on the second floor with us, and Zaha (the dog shares the stairtower on her way to the backyard. We will coordinate to avoid having guests unexpectedly meet her by surprise. Eve stays sealed inside the 2nd floor, so there is no allergy concern for those with cat allergies.
