Hi! My name is Sierra. I've been vegan since I was about 15, which is over 25 years now. I live with my parter, Adam, who has been vegan for 15+ years. We met in Boston, working as educators at the Museum of Science. Now we run our own video production company that specializes in producing videos for tech companies. We enjoy traveling (most recently to Bulgaria and northern England) and moved to Australia from the US in 2017. We also love hiking, being in nature, reading, spending time in the sauna, and cooking and eating delicious vegan food in huge quantities!

My Lifestyle

I've been vegan for over half my life (since I was in high school). My partner Adam has been vegan since 2009.

Fun Facts About Me

I used to play the oboe. I like word games and jigsaw puzzles. In my job at the Museum of Science I got to play with a bobcat and a boa constrictor.

Getting around the area

Our house is located in Millers Corner ecovillage community right near the heart of Mount Barker SA. We are a ~5 minute walk to multiple grocery stores, cafes, restaurants, Kmart, multiple thrift stores and all the other downtown shops. Foodland has an amazing selection of vegan groceries - probably the widest range we've seen in any grocery store. We are about 5 minute walk from the bus that will take you to Adelaide. Our favorite spots include the Botanic Garden, Adelaide Central Market, and the South Australian Museum. Strolling along the Torrens River is also lovely. Veggie Vie is our favorite downtown cafe/lunch spot. We are also a block from a network of bike/walking paths that will take you to the Farmers Market (Saturday mornings - loads of vegan options), the library, cinema, and the Laratinga Wetlands, among other destinations. We are about a 10-minute drive from Hahndorf, a well-known German town. Further afield, the Adelaide Hills region is a world-renowned wine-growing region and there are a variety of cellar doors within a 30-45-minute drive. There are also a number of distilleries. The Fleurieu peninsula, Barossa valley, beaches, and many national parks are all also available within ~45-minute drive.

About This Space

A closer look at the stay

About

Our guest room is on the ground floor and includes a queen size sofa bed with a memory foam mattress, TV, and a desk and chair. It has lots of natural light and its own door to our back yard. The bathroom is on the other side of the lounge from the bedroom and will mostly be available for your private use. It does contain our washer/dryer, so we may need to use this, but we have our own bathroom upstairs. The guest room doesn't have its own air con, but there is a split system (cooling + heating) in the lounge which is directly next to the bedroom. The room does have a space heater and ceiling fan if needed. We love to meet people from around the world. The reason we host guests is to learn about a variety of cultures and to share our blend of Australian and American cultures with others. We've lived in San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Melbourne, Sydney, the NSW Central Coast, and now the Adelaide Hills. This is a lovely area with so much to do: the town of Mount Barker is very walkable and everything is within 5-15 minutes walk. Adelaide is only 30 minutes away by car or the bus takes 45-60 minutes and runs very frequently. In the hills, there are plenty of hikes, wineries, distilleries, cafes and bakeries, lovely small towns, and it's only 45 minutes to a number of beaches. Our house has 4-bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and an open floor plan living, dining and kitchen area. We provide all linens and towels. There is also shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap in the bathroom. We have high-speed WiFi. If you'd like to do laundry, just let us know and we can help you use the washer/dryer. If you need anything during your stay, don't hesitate to ask us. We're happy to provide a light vegan breakfast for you (included in the cost of your stay). If you are interested in other meals, please discuss with us in advance (additional charge will apply).

The space

The guest room contains: a double/queen sofa bed, bedside table with drawers, TV, and desk with chair. You are welcome to use our lounge + dining room.

Other things to note

We don't have any pets. Parking is easily available in the Miller's Corner carpark. It's a quiet area, but we do have some noisy morning birds (ravens and various parrots). The M1 highway is not that far away and sometimes you can hear trucks in the night if you are a light sleeper. House rules: No smoking. No shoes in the house. Vegan food only. Eating in the dining room or lounge only (not bedroom).
