About this space

A rustic, colorful home perched up in the village of Santa Cruz La Laguna, with volcano views, an outdoor shower you'll never want to leave, and more plants and textiles than is strictly necessary. It's not a polished guesthouse — it's a real local home, lived-in and full of personality, where the dogs will greet you at the gate, and the lake is right there every time you lift your eyes. If you're looking for that minimalist all-beige all-perfect Scandinavian aesthetic, this isn't your place. If you want color, character, good conversation, and a genuine slice of life on Lake Atitlán, you are welcome at my place, and I think you will enjoy it!

I'm a vegetarian with a Master's in International Cooperation, Human Rights and Ethno-Cultural Heritage Protection — which is a long way of saying I care deeply about people, places, and the systems that connect them. I've spent 8 years living on Lake Atitlán, first in Panajachel and now in the village of Santa Cruz La Laguna, where I moved in January and am slowly making a home that feels like me. After a life spent working in NGOs, I now work as a guide for an adventure company on the lake, and I'm also building a community and experiential tourism project with a friend — the kind that actually puts travelers in real conversation with the place and the people who live here. I'm passionate about social justice, indigenous rights, Guatemalan history, Maya cosmovision, and I love a long conversation over mate (argentinian beverage) that goes somewhere unexpected. When I'm not working or talking politics, you'll find me swimming in the lake, hiking the hills around the village, dancing salsa, or deep in a novel. I'm obsessed with Mesoamerican textiles and handicraft, grow medicinal plants in my garden, and have plants in pretty much every corner of the house because I genuinely can't stop. I speak English, Spanish, and Italian, and I share my home with two dogs — Bee and Cometa — who are friendly, curious, and will absolutely try to convince you they haven't been fed yet or that I haven't been cuddling them in weeks!

Neighbourhood

The house sits in a genuinely local neighborhood — my neighbors are entirely Maya indigenous families, which I love. That comes with its own soundtrack: chickens, kids playing, the occasional burst of religious music or reggaeton, and construction here and there. But honestly it's quieter than you'd expect — most neighbors are out working during the day, so you mainly hear the morning wake-up bustle and the evening dinner hour. By 9:30pm the whole village goes quiet. No noisy churches within earshot, which is a bonus.
