Neighborhood

Getting around the area

We are remote and not so easy to get to but that's what makes the place special and relatively untouched. The island is peaceful, with no white noise, full of butterflies and hummingbirds and fresh air. The lack of electricity means there is near zero light pollution and the night sky a "Dark Sky Location", and the stars at night so clear, to watch the shooting stars.

About This Space

A closer look at the stay

About

We have around 2 hectares of land on the island of Isla Gobernadora, which is located 30 mins from Santa Catalina. On one side of the island we have the main house (Casa Tortuga) where the bathroom and kitchen is shared between those in the cabin, and those camping. Where we are located is on a big hill with both a view of the sea and the mountain and a 5 min walk along the beach to the small village on the island. where there are two small shops that each contain what you can see behind the counter on a couple of shelves that sell the basic essentials. Our land on the other side of the island is beach front, with a fresh water creek running through it's heart and a white sand beach in front. Here the land is still wild and great for overnight stays camping, and bonfires, especially as it's faces west and therefore the most spectacular sunsets. There is no grid power on the island or roads and we hope it stays that way. The main house runs of solar and water comes from a well. Ben the host also runs TheOtherPanama.com, so dive trips, snorkel trips and whale watching can all be organised from here. Locally or to Coiba National Park. Kayak and Paddle Boards rentals, PADI Dive courses etc

The space

We have a 6 person tent and a couple of 2 person tents available. Soft mattresses, sheets and pillows are provided. Bathrooms are shared. Guests are free to wander and relax throughout the property.

The kitchen

Our kitchen is basic and without any electrical appliances other then the blender as we run off solar energy. The fridge and freezer runs of gas as does the stove and oven. Guests are welcome to eat all the fruit growing in the garden apart from the last fruit on each tree.

Other things to note

We do not have WiFi but phone signal can be found on the top of our hill.
