Hi all I am a vegan living in a very quiet part of Nederland, in the village of Melissant. Fellow vegans, or in transition vegetarians, are most welcome to stay at my place for some days. I offer a couch for free, and from the summer of 2025 onwards, a guesthouse as well. Have a peak at my listings.
My Lifestyle
Quiet. Reading, binge-watching series in the winter months. Taking care of my messy, wild garden. Looking at actual photos on Insta. Walks with the dogs. Cooking and baking. Sometimes I take my motorbike (#oranjebrommer) out for a spin. Slowly DIY fixing up my vintage house. Visiting old towns.

Getting around the area
We live in a small village with a pub that is open... well, when it is. Friday and Saturdays 'for sure, unless not'. There is a supermarket in my street, and a lovely bakery at a 3 minutes walk. They sell some vegan stuff like a banana cake and a gingerbread-cake-ish something, and 'stroopwafels'. Both shops are closed on Sundays though! As are most shops in the area. The nature reserve 'Slikken van Flakkee' is nearby. Really nice to walk or cycle, and in the summer for a swim in this salt lake. A bit further on is the North sea, with some beautiful beaches, some great walks there in the green dunes and several lovely beach cafes - even though the vegan options there are disappointing. The village of Stellendam has a good eatery with vegan options though. If you feel city-ish for a day: both Antwerp (Belgium) and Rotterdam are at max an hours' drive.

About This Space
A closer look at the stay
About
At a 50 minute drive south of Rotterdam, you'll find Melissant. A quiet village at a 15 minutes from some great beaches and the North Sea. And at a 5 minute bicycle ride from the 'Slikken van Flakkee' a lovely area for walking and cycling. Melissant is nothing special, but the nearby charming towns of Goedereede, Sommelsdijk and Middelharnis are worth a visit. You can stay on my comfortable double couch and use the kitchen and bathroom. Our household are myself, my 21 y/o step son, a small dog and a cat. The furry inhabitants might decide to sleep on the couch with you. This is totally up to them.
The space
Besides the couch, you are welcome to sit in the insect friendly (messy...) small garden and park a motorbike or your bicycles in the garage.
The kitchen
Fridge, oven, stove and such are at your disposal. I've no microwave or too many fancy appliances but I love to cook and bake and I think my kitchen is well utilized.
Other things to note
The doggy will bark when people enter the house. Nothing some cuddles won't help. Good wifi Quiet street Plenty of free parking close by

I generally go to sleep around 22hrs. Fine for you to watch tv after this hour, or talk and listen to some music, as long as it's not too loud. Please take your shoes off inside! I often work from home but have a semi separate home office so I'm not much bothered if you are around. Just accept that while I'm there, I'm not much available for inquiries or a chat. Please also be aware that the couch is in an open plan kitchen living space so you have next to no privacy. And when I'm pottering around early in the morning you will probably wake up.
