My move to Mexico was a long time coming, and I am now happy to be sharing my house, garden and new casita with veggie guests. I have rescue cats that I take care of on the property, they are friendly and love affection.I am planning some rescue chickens, so I may have a few eggs a week, but apart from that (and the cat food) I'm all but vegan. There is a nice size pool and your own private garden and kitchen, and I serve a simple fruit, coffee and breadbasket breakfast on the patio. I also can prepare light meals on request. In my past life I made costumes for Broadway shows, and now make a few gift items should my guests be interested.
My Lifestyle
I'm almost vegan, if someone offers me birthday cake made with egg, I will eat a slice, but my real love is making vegan Indian food, sadly, much Mexican fare is meaty, so I try and create interesting fusions of Yucatan/Indian. I have a couple of big Chaya plants in the garden, (tree spinach) it is so wonderful, and I'm starting to grow a little of my own food, my curry leaf plants are finally thriving...
Fun Facts About Me
Originally from the UK, I spent 38 years in New York, making costumes, and enjoying the city, taking frequent trips to Merida, land of the Maya, and cultural home of rubber, snakes and chocolate! What more could there be! I give onsite workshops in textile manipulation using silicone rubber, and continue costume making but in a limited capacity. Snake imagery is my thing, my Deco house is a collectors paradise, I had my floor tiles created to incorporate this theme, and there are no real snakes I hasten to add.
Hobbies & Interests
I have both a rubber collection, which led to me writing a book about Rubber, and a collection of snake decorative objects that I have gathered over the years. I love working in the garden, as haven't had one since living in London 40 years ago, I also sew, paint fabric and create textiles with silicone rubber.

Neighborhood
Getting around the area
Centrally located with a true neighborhood vibe. Walking distance to the main zocalo, main market, and large Chedraui supermarket, I tend to walk most places, and there are cabs, Uber and buses for travel further afield. We are half block from San Sebastián square, with its lovely church and small mercado, ice creams, aqua fresca's, crepes and refreshing sorbets, and the local eateries have a variety of fare, and place where Panuchos were invented and still sold... a new delightful breakfast spot, Julios antique shop is worth a browse, and free exercise equipment is available in the park, (alongside the basketball court and running track). ATM’s are a 3 minute walk away at the modern new bus station, where there are more juice bars, and a Subway, along with tourist information, and buses to the many Maya sites all over the peninsular. Sunday night jazz and drinks in Ermita, and the local 24 hour Oxxo for convenience items.

About This Space
A closer look at the stay
About
Bright, open and airy, relaxed atmosphere with lots of space plus your own private gardens. Secluded areas and a large pool, small private cat rescue and cat cafe, but the cats are not allowed in the guest rooms.
The space
The casita is an independent area of over 2000 Sq ft. There are 2 large, (the turtle room and the Teatro room) both of which have private bathrooms and gardens, also a safe, iron, hangers, and great air conditioning. They are connected by a large kitchen/dining area that has a mini fridge, blender, microwave, toaster, and kitchen utensils for food preparation. The 'Teatro' room has a large screen tv, books and jigsaw puzzles.
The kitchen
You have your own private kitchen/dining area with mini fridge, kettle, filtered water, toaster, and blender, the granite counter is over 20 feet long, and additional access to the main house kitchen for other appliances, such as the oven, is available on request.
Other things to note
My house is basically a cat rescue, home to 10 permanent residents plus around 20 more looking for permanent homes, they are friendly and affectionate. Its a quiet refuge, and I can prepare a few simple vegan meals on request, and sell drinks, like wine and beer, and snacks. My welcome book has details of additional food choices, both in the house and around town.
