As a bonus, you will feel right at home with all these other Earth-conscious touches:

• Toilet paper, tissue, and paper towels made from post-consumer RECYCLED PAPER.

• CHEMICAL-FREE plant-based cleaning supplies and air fresheners.

• Non-toxic, ECO-FRIENDLY building materials and paints.

• FAITHFULLY-followed tenants of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Compost.

Guest access: Guests have access to their private bedroom, all the common areas for the main house, and the back patio. Common areas for the main house include the upstairs bathroom, hallways, living room, dining room, kitchen, and front porch. Areas closed to Guests are the other private bedrooms and the basement.

The kitchen

I have been enjoying a 100 percent vegan diet for a very long time, and my kitchen reflects that. It is small, but not tiny, and it's a comfortable, enjoyable space.

Set out for you on one of the counters are free organic fair trade coffees, coffee substitute, and teas. From the fridge you are welcome to grab some non-dairy milk or creamer that I get at the neighborhood cooperative grocery.

Since one of the big reasons you've probably come to Portland is to partake in its vast abundance of vegan offerings, you'll be probably catching all or most of your meals from the many vegan and vegan-friendly food carts, cafes, restaurants and pubs within short walking or public transit distance. But if you'd like, the kitchen is available for you to make a meal, or you can just use the refrigerator or cabinet space to store snack foods.

The counter by the fridge is a wooden block on which you can cut your fruit and veggies. I have a Vitamix that you can use for smoothies and food prep/blending, as well as a slow masticating Hurom juicer.

A peninsula provides spaces to sit, converse, prep food or eat. The kitchen's exterior door leads to the side porch and the back patio, which is splendid during pleasant weather for hanging out and enjoying your meals. The kitchen is adjoined to the formal dining room, and you are welcome to enjoy your meals there, too.

Other things to note

Keeping in touch with me around your arrival times and departures will allow me to greet you upon arrival, hand you the key, and otherwise plan for you.

If you’re coming from another country, getting international texting or calling on your phone will make it easier for you to get ahold of me if/when needed.

The Patio Suite is open only to those one to two guests who have booked this reservation. If you've booked as a single traveler, and would like another person to be added as a Guest during the Rental Period, I will need you to ask me if you can make this change so that I can determine if I am able to accommodate it and, if so, adjust the rental rate accordingly. SHOE-FREE AREA. A “No Shoes Wearing” policy inside the property ensures that the floor and rugs stay squeaky clean for all guests’ enjoyment. Bringing your own slippers or cozy socks may be a good option for comfort, but I always provide clean, washable slippers for you to use, if you'd like. FOOD ITEMS. I am vegan, as are a large percentage of my guests. So I ask that you refrain from bringing animal foods onto the Property (meaning containing eggs, meat, fish, or dairy). Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this. FIRE SAFETY. For the safety of the building, no lighting of candles, incense, sage, or any other flammable materials is allowed on the Property. CANNABIS. Consumption of medical and recreational marijuana (cannabis) is legal in Oregon. Depending on the sensitivity level that other guests at the time may have to the scent, I will most likely allow you to smoke cannabis outside on the patio – but NOT inside the house. Vaping of cannabis (in which no smoke is emitted, only vapors) is permitted in Guest(s)'s private room only, NOT in any interior common areas, and with the window or door open a crack for ventilation so that the scent doesn’t permeate the space. If you are sensitive to cannabis smoke, please let me know this so that, when you book, I can coordinate with the occasional other Guests who may wish to enjoy smoking cannabis outdoors.

I've lived in Portland for a long time and know the city and region well. I'm an easy-going guy with some world travel under my belt. I'm into natural and sustainable living, culture, and Oregon's countryside and wilderness. While giving you all the space you need, I am friendly and welcoming, and I am happy to guide you to whatever local sightseeing or experience you may be in the mood for. If you are vegetarian, vegan or just curious about or enjoy plant-based cuisine, I have been vegan for longer than I can count and am tuned into the plethora of vegan/plant based shops, restaurants, bars and activities in town and can give you some ideas of where to grab that kind of grub to your heart's delight.

Getting around: Popular bike lanes on Williams and Vancouver Avenues take you to and from downtown in minutes, as do nearby bus routes, making downtown a mere 10 to 15 minute journey away.
There is a bike rental shop 3 blocks away where you rent a bike by the day and/or choose from two or three different group city tours. Their number is 503.358.0152
The Max "Yellow" light rail line taking you to connections to all points, including the airport, is a 15 to 20-minute walk away.
A faster way to the airport by transit would be to take the number 6 bus south on MLK Blvd, which is 4 blocks away, to the Max Blue Line, which goes all the way to the airport.
