About Your Host
Aloha! We the Barefoot Gardeners Richard, Merryellen and Valeria live on a majestic piece of land we call the Temple on the Eastern tip of Hawaii Island. Off-Grid, the temple is founded on deeply integrated sustainable practices. We Catch rainwater for our outdoor shower and Kitchen washing. Meanwhile we capture the sun with solar panels to provide power for small devices and light in the main house. We have beautiful gardens at the temple to feed us and visitors and use an eco-friendly composting toilet. The off-grid lifestyle is so natural and livening to us we are excited to share it with you. As long term raw food lovers we treasure pure foods and can accommodate simple cooked veggie meals sourced from the land when available and local farmers markets. We do not have refrigeration so our food is eaten quick, which is very easy with access to fresh farmers markets several times a week. Dedicated to the land we live on, our passion thrives in creating food forests and gardens to feed ourselves and friends with vitality. We are open about our alternative lifestyle living off-grid and doing the "normal things" just a little different. We welcome all visitors looking for a nourishing and peaceful stay on the Big Island. We thrive in company of good hearts and people interested in learning about the off-grid or raw food lifestyle. We welcome you to soak in the clean air, warm waters and share the magic of Hawaii.
