Our 1927 bungalow is well-located in beautiful, eclectic South Berkeley. Extremely convenient to the 80 freeway, a 20-minute drive to San Francisco (without traffic!), and a bounty of destinations are within walking distance. We're just a short drive from UC Berkeley and The Greek Theatre, downtown, 4th Street, Tilden Park, and other great Berkeley neighborhoods and amenities, as well as the hot new food scene happening in nearby Oakland — happy to give you recommendations for restaurants, day trips, scenic drives, farmer's markets, and anything else your heart desires.
The house is South-facing, and enjoys lovely light throughout the day. We have a great, big neighborhood park across the street, with plenty of room to stretch out, enjoy the sunshine, or watch a baseball game.
Your room has a desk, closet (not much empty space in it, though we can make a little room for you), bookshelf and futon, with a double layer of padding on top, one Tempurpedic layer and one pillow top layer for a great night's sleep.
Our house is painted in neutral tones, which makes for a peaceful oasis. It's a 2-bedroom, 1-bath home (guests share a bathroom with us.) The living room has a working fireplace and TV. French doors lead into a sun-drenched dining room with original built-ins. And a fully-equipped kitchen is yours to use and enjoy. We are a vegan and a vegetarian, and respectfully request that you don't cook meat or other animal-based foods in the house. The bathroom includes a shower/tub heated with a tankless hot water heater. Speaking of hot, please enjoy the hot tub in our backyard, as well as the bounty of figs and Asian pears, when in season.
We can make room in the fridge for you, if you'd like to cook or simply do some shopping at the nearby Berkeley Bowl West, our local food mecca, or any one of the great Berkeley Farmer's Markets. Whether you need a blender, dehydrater, juicer, spiralizer or an ingredient for a smoothie or seaweed salad, we've probably got it.
You are welcome to make yourself at home, inside and out. The only room that we keep to ourselves is our bedroom.
We are a shoe-free home, so all we ask is that you leave your shoes inside the front door when you arrive. And no tobacco smoking in the house, please.
Walk to the Berkeley Bowl West...the best local food market in town. Also within walking distance is Far Leaves Tea House, Kaffa Ethiopian, the Berkeley Ecology Center, and lots of other cafes, shops, etc. We're also a very short drive from Donut Farm, a great little vegan donut bakery and cafe, in neighboring Oakland. The neighborhood is residential with plenty of street parking, and there's a park diagonally across the street from us.
The Ashby BART station is about a 15 minute walk from our house, and there are also bus lines that stop a few blocks away, but a car is really your best bet for getting around and exploring.
